Vassy’s new album Beautiful Day (released May 1) delivers alternative-pop tracks that have been snapped up by global brands Google, Victoria’s Secret, Chevrolet, and Nike. More than a favorite of advertising departments, peers rave about her. “Vassy is an amazing artist and songwriter…. Her voice and energy is real and separates her from the pack,” says Richard Vission, producer (Luciana, “I Like That”). Jon Ernst, producer and music supervisor of “Girlfriend Confidential: LA” (Oxygen Network) and “The Hills” (MTV) says, “Vassy’s songs on this album are all amazing ear-candy … undisputed TV, film, and advertising placement gold.”
Vassy – “Could This Be Love”
Beautiful Day is a rousing collection of thirteen songs recorded over an eight-week period, produced by music industry veterans and upstarts. The album’s producers are Jacques Brautbar (Phantom Planet), Jon Ernst & Skylar “EXC” Mones, Charlie Midnight (James Brown, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera) & Denny Weston, Tim Myers (OneRepublic), and Richard Vission & Chico Bennett. Vassy says, “The album is quirky, it’s very uplifting. There’s brightness to this record.” Album highlights include hand-clapping, foot-stomping “We Are Young,” and tropi-cool songs “Could This Be Love” and “Fallin’ (For Your Love).” Other standouts include the energizing anthem “Lucky Day,” summertime romp “Beautiful Day,” and quirky, bubbly tracks “Today’s My Day” and “Girls & Boyz.” Beautiful Day is available on iTunes.
Reflecting on her album-making experience Vassy says, “I feel so blessed to have worked with such amazingly talented producers. All of them have worked with huge stars and have had big successes. Still, they are so down-to-earth and supportive of my quirky, soulful nature. It was the most fun and fruitful experience for me.” What does the singer think of her latest album? Vassy declares, “It’s very me. It’s very Vassy.” Chevrolet, Google, and Nike advertisements all feature the song “We Are Young,” co-written and produced by Tim Myers. The song “Desire” is most recently featured in The Cabin in the Woods (MGM) movie soundtrack, and placed in TheLadders “More Attractive” TV commercial and Victoria’s Secret “Swim 2012: Beauty and the Beach” video.
Vassy grew up in a remote town in northern Australia, the daughter of first-generation Greek immigrants. After winning a radio songwriting contest, she was signed to Warner Bros. Australia. A successful string of singles and song placements with Hilton Hotels, Grey’s Anatomy, and Ugly Betty followed.
Vassy volunteer teaches music composition at a residential center and special education high school for abused and neglected adolescent girls in Los Angeles.
